Are you displeased by the size, structure, or shape of your nose? At the office of Dr. Gregory E Rauscher, M.D. in Hackensack, NJ, we offer rhinoplasty to help people just like you breathe better and feel more confident. This cosmetic procedure is designed to alter the shape of the nose to enhance your overall aesthetic. With this simple procedure, you can enjoy an improved level of self-confidence that will last for a lifetime.
When Is the Best Time to Get Rhinoplasty?
Your facial structure, health status, and whether you are trying to correct a medical condition, improve your appearance, or both affect the right time for you to undergo rhinoplasty. Typically, it is appropriate to have this procedure performed when your nose is done growing. For females, the nose stops growing around the age of 15 or 16. For males, the nose stops growing around the age of 16 or 17.
If you think the time is right for you to enhance the appearance or function of your nose, you should schedule an initial appointment at our conveniently located New Jersey office. At this time, Dr. Gregory E Rauscher, M.D. will examine your nose and assess its structure. He will also speak with you regarding what changes you would like to get out of the procedure. Then, he will advise you regarding whether you are the appropriate age to undergo this procedure.
Which Concerns Can Be Corrected With This Rhinoplasty Procedure?
This procedure can be used to correct many concerns, ranging from aesthetic problems to health issues.
Addressing Aesthetic Problems
We often use rhinoplasty to shrink or narrow the nose. Also, we can remove irregularities, such as bumps from your olfactory organ. Additionally, we can correct a nose with too great of an arch. Moreover, it is not uncommon to change the shape of the nose’s tip during this procedure. With one or more of these changes, people’s gazes will be drawn to your eyes rather than how disproportionate the size of your nose is to the rest of your face.
Enhancing the Quality of Your Health
Besides improving your appearance, we can enhance the quality of your health. For instance, if your nose is structured irregularly, you could find it difficult to breathe adequately when you sleep on your back.
You may also struggle to take in enough oxygen when you work out. We can restructure your nasal passages so you can breathe better than you ever have. We can also rebuild your olfactory organ if it is damaged in a motor vehicle accident or sports-related injury.
What Do I Need to Do Before My Rhinoplasty Procedure?
There are many things you need to do in the weeks leading up to your procedure. If you follow each instruction as advised, you will have a faster recovery experience than you would if you failed to adhere to the pre-op rules.
Stop Taking Certain Drugs
You should stop taking blood-thinning drugs and certain herbal or nutritional supplements that affect the viscosity of your blood. You should only have to refrain from taking these drugs and supplements for two or three weeks. Depending on your health, you may need to test your blood before we can medically clear you for this procedure.
Stop Consuming Tobacco Products
If you consume tobacco products, your nose will take an unnecessarily long time to heal after your nose job. If you want your recovery to be as short as possible, stop consuming products that contain nicotine, such as cigarettes and cigars. You should also be mentally prepared to stop smoking for several weeks after your nose job.
Prepare for Your Post-Op Rest
Pick up the prescription pharmaceuticals you need to take during your post-op rest before you come in for your procedure. Take these exactly as prescribed. Also, prepare the most comfortable room you have so you can rest and relax during the first several days of your post-op experience. Make sure you have a loved one to drive you home from your nose job.
You will be unable to drive for at least the first 24 hours post-op due to the nature of the anesthetic used to ensure your continuous comfort. Ensure you have someone to stay with you for at least 24 hours after your nose job. If you can’t freeze meals that are easy to microwave before your procedure, be prepared to have someone cook for you. Also, clean your house before your procedure and try to find someone to keep your home clean as you are recovering.
Which Type of Anesthetic Will do I Get?
You will most likely receive a combination of local anesthesia and sedation if you are having a simple procedure performed. If you are in excellent health and the scope of your procedure is complex, you may receive general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and relaxation throughout the procedure.
