Blepharoplasty for Drooping Upper Eyelids

blepharoplasty

When a person has drooping upper eyelids, they look like they are tired all of the time. They might get eight or nine hours of sleep a night, but people are always going to think that they are exhausted. An individual with drooping eyelids might be energetic, vital and ready to take on whatever their job or life situation requires of them. However, because of their eyes, people may view them as overwhelmed.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is not just an anti-aging cosmetic procedure done to enhance a person’s appearance. There are many individuals who are in their twenties who request this procedure. This is because they may be dealing with drooping upper eyelids, which can negatively affect their peripheral vision, as well as their appearance.

During a typical blepharoplasty procedure, excess fat, skin and tissue are removed and the eyelid muscles are tightened. Of course, the details of each surgery vary from patient to patient, since each person is unique. Patients can opt to have either the upper or lower eyelid treated, or they may decide to have both eyelids treated. It all depends on the situation. This is something that will be determined during the initial evaluation, where our surgeon talks to you about what your specific goals are.

Blepharoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure, which means you will be able to go home to recover the same day. Some individuals may benefit from having another procedure in conjunction with eyelid surgery, depending on their goals and their facial features.

If you are considering blepharoplasty, it is important to have a realistic idea of what your results will be. Patients who have a good idea of what to expect regarding the outcome are generally happiest with their results. A blepharoplasty procedure can enhance your appearance and help you to look years younger; however, it will not make you look like you did when you were 18. Also, if you are having the procedure done to improve peripheral vision, it will do just that; however, it won’t give you 20/20 vision. Having realistic expectations regarding the results will help to ensure you are happy after healing.

A simple blepharoplasty procedure may be just what you have been looking for to correct your drooping upper eyelids. Schedule a consultation at the office of Gregory E. Rauscher, MD in Hackensack to discuss how this procedure can help you to stop looking so tired. Contact us today to book your appointment!
