How Does a Butt Lift Work?

At the office of Dr. Gregory E Rauscher, M.D. in Hackensack, NJ, we love helping our clients improve their self-confidence. One of the most popular procedures in New Jersey, and the rest of the world, is the Brazilian butt lift. One reason this effective procedure is so popular is that it simultaneously improves the contours of your buttocks and other regions of the body. Keep reading to learn more about this procedure, including how it works and what the recovery is like.

How Does a Butt Lift Work?

A butt lift works in just a few simple steps. First, an incision is made in one or more donor areas. Through this incision, we will insert a cannula with a suction device attached to the end. With the help of this suction device, we will harvest roughly a quarter of the fat from your donor region and process it. The healthiest fat cells will be cleaned and injected into strategic points in the buttocks.

Where Can Fat Be Harvested From?

Virtually any region of your body can be a donor region. Usually, excess fat is suctioned out from the hips, lower abdomen, thighs, or flanks. However, excess fat can also be removed from the upper arms, lower back, or other areas. There just needs to be a moderate amount of excess fat in a particular area. Sometimes, areas with a large amount of excess fat can qualify as donor areas. Areas with only a small amount of excess fat will not qualify.

How Long Will My Procedure Take?

We will let you know how long you should anticipate your procedure being during your initial consultation. In some cases, procedures take only two to three hours to complete. In other cases, though, it may take four to eight hours to complete if additional procedures are required to help you achieve the body of your dreams.

What Preparation Steps Will I Need to Take Prior to Surgery?

It is essential that you do not eat anything in the eight hours leading up to your procedure. To keep you calm and comfortable during surgery, we will administer general anesthesia. Your stomach must be empty before the anesthesia is administered. If you find yourself feeling hungry before surgery, it’s okay to fill your stomach with clear liquids, like white cranberry juice, apple juice, or water. You will need to avoid drinking anything at all in the two hours before surgery, though.

Another vital preparation step is to refrain from consuming products that can increase your blood pressure and slow recovery, like cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. Moreover, you may not take any pharmaceuticals that will affect coagulation.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Procedure?

If you are relatively healthy and have a BMI between 18.5 and 29.9, there is a good chance you will qualify for this procedure. However, an initial consultation is required to verify that you are healthy enough for this procedure and that it will be safe and effective for you.

Most likely, this procedure will be considered effective for you if you feel like your buttocks are disproportionately small compared to your upper torso, your buttocks are misshapen after massive weight loss, or you are worried about:

What Can I Expect During My Recovery Process?

You can expect your recovery process following your butt lift to take roughly six months to complete. During the first 14 days of your recovery, you should not lie or sit directly on your buttocks. Depending on where the donor fat was harvested from, you may be advised to sleep laterally or on your stomach. When you sit, you should use a specially designed BBL pillow or rolled-up towel to keep pressure off of your buttocks. Just make sure you get up and regularly walk to maintain optimal circulation.

Generally, patients can return to work just seven to 10 days post-op. By the time your first six weeks have passed, you should be able to start resuming your usual workout routine. However, if you’re not quite feeling fully healed, don’t push yourself too hard. Gentle exercise is okay, but it may be up to two more weeks before you feel like getting any vigorous exercise. Until your final results are realized, make sure that you are getting plenty of calories every day.

Will My Results Look Natural?

Yes, your Brazilian butt lift results will look completely natural. Unlike other butt augmentation methods, your own fat is used to create your ideal butt volume and shape rather than silicone implants or dermal fillers. In addition to looking completely natural, your results will feel completely natural.
