What Does a Breast Augmentation Entail?

Breast Augmentation

If you’ve been thinking about changing the shape of your breasts, then an augmentation might be the type of surgery that would be best. However, you should learn about what a breast augmentation entails before making a final decision. The first step in the process is consulting with a plastic surgeon who will talk to you about your medical history and the reasons why you want to have the surgery performed. From there, you can find pictures of the doctor’s prior surgeries and discuss the available options pertaining to the type of implants used and the breast size you desire.

After you’ve met with the surgeon and decided to have the surgery performed, you will make an appointment for the procedure. A breast augmentation entails going to an outpatient center or a hospital and then usually going home the same day of the operation. For this procedure, the surgical openings are created in such a way as to leave minimal, inconspicuous scarring. The type of implant usually plays a factor in the type of opening made.

The implants are placed either under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue. This is one of the details that a breast augmentation entails that sometimes depends on the health of the breast tissue. If you’re getting a silicone implant, then the size is usually determined before the procedure. A saline implant is small when it’s placed with a saline solution being injected during surgery until the implant is the desired size. The openings are sealed, and you’ll be taken to a recovery room until you’re able to go home.
